Feb 28, 2015  I have a 1969 Browning A5 20 gauge, The serial number starts 69Z-XXXXX. The 'Z' is the question, The browning site shows that a 'G' or 'M' should follow the mfg. Date indicating a Lightweight or Standard model.

I recently inherited what appears to be a Browning A5 from my father. I know very little about it or shotguns in general so I am hoping to find some help identifying this shotgun.

I've documented all of the symbols and numbers I can find on it and taken pictures. From what I can tell the various pieces point to 1920s to early 1930s. Andre segovia music. Pictures are available here: Serial number of receiver: 53421 or 63421 Number on barrel: 53396 Number on wood: 151331 The receiver has the following stamped on it: FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE BROWNING'S PATENT DEPOSE On the other side are a couple of symbols I matched up with this website: In the photos I tried to clearly identify what each marking was. Other markings/info on the barrel (also well marked in the pictures): ACIER SPECIAL 12 C in a diamond D = 70/20.7 P.O.K 831.9 CHOKE 17.1/18.2 17.4/18.2 398 Several more symbols from the browning proof mark page Any help that anyone could give me would be great. I'm also looking for advice on where to sell this shotgun if you all think anyone would be interested in it. Like I said, I know very little about it and the wife doesn't want it in the house with our new baby.

You have a 12 gauge with a 2 3/4' chamber. Your receiver sn looks like an 83421 to me, which would date it 1926, but you can probably see it better, so here are the dates: 1919: 47719 -: 47299 -: 48951 -: 53501 -: 58151 -: 62601 -: 69301 -: 79151 -: 88001 -: 106251 - 127650 As far as having a 12 gauge in the house with a baby, don't worry - you've got years until the little tyke can shoot it.but your wife is right, I would really recommend getting the kid a 20 gauge to start out on. Chucho Sounds like you've got the shotgun figured out.it's a Fabrique Nationale Auto 5.

This was JM Browning's auto shotgun that Winchester wouldn't make, so he took it to Belgium and FN produced it. FN had already been making JB's first autoloading pistol, the model 1899/1900.

Gauge

As far as value goes, it's not worth much. If I recall, the serial numbers don't match and I believe I saw a picture of a cracked part in your pictures. I'd say you're looking at about $300 (I just picked up a 16 gauge made in 1925 for $400 in much better shape). Per the Blue Book For Guns Mgr Yr. 1927 - serial numbers 51599 through 57900 Mfg Yr.

1928 - serial number s 57901 through 65100 Browning fabrique nationale d'armes de guerre model a-5 semi auto 16 gauge 2-3/4'inch chamber semi auto shotgun. The barrel is 27-1/2' long. Gun valued at between $1000 and $2500 depending on condition.

Mine has serial # 75009 - Mfg yr 1929 Looking to replace the fore arm, if you know of one available. Attached is a mfg. Year chart that will help. It contains data for all gages ad has additional info re mfg. I have 1 that has 18554 on the receiver right where the shells go into the tube. It also has a 9v on it stamped above the 18554. You can barely see the 9v in the pic I attached.
